ABOUT CABERNET SAUVIGNON

ABOUT CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Did you know that Cabernet Sauvignon is the off-spring of two grapes, a white grape and a red grape?

They are:

1) Cabernet Franc - This where the first name Cabernet comes from.

2) Sauvignon Blanc - This is where the 2nd name Sauvignon comes from.

That is how the grape is called Cabernet Sauvignon.

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

Every grape vine has both male and female organ parts.

When the male part of one of the grape vine gets to fertilize the female part of another grape vine, then an off-spring (a different grape is born).

WHERE DID THIS HAPPEN?

From documentations, this is most likely happened in Bordeaux, and therefore Cabernet Sauvignon is widely recognized as the grape of Bordeaux.

So Cabernet Sauvignon is recognized as the grape that originates from Bordeaux. In fact it is the most important grape in Bordeaux.

INTERESTING POINT TO TAKE NOTE:

Despite being the off-spring of Sauvignon Blanc (white grape), and Cabernet Franc (a medium bodied, medium tannin grape), Cabernet Sauvignon is a thick skin and muscular. Similar to having a body builder born among in a family of non body builders.

MAKES THE WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE WINES

Cabernet Sauvignon has been the major grape used in high percentage in the blends of the worlds' most expensive wines such as just to name a few:

  • Chateau Lafite Rothschild
  • Chateau Latour
  • Chateau Mouton Rotschild
  • Chateau Margaux
  • Sassicaia
