Super Tuscans have been the most innovative Italian wine phenomena whereby winemakers decided to blend non-traditional grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, sometimes in combination with Sangiovese, and aged them in new French oak barrels in order to produce high quality wines.
