GROWER CHAMPAGNE

GROWER CHAMPAGNE

When we are looking to buy a very good Champagne, often we are taken by surprised by the limited choices that we can think of.

So we choose to rely on some big names, the usual brands that we would have heard of such as Dom Perignon, Cristal, Krug, Salon for example.

While these are well known and good Champagne, we miss out on the some of the Champagne region's wonderful producers whose Champagne are known as Grower Champagne.

So what is a grower Champagne?

In a nutshell let me explain in a bulleted form:

  • Grower champagne is produced by small, independent winegrowers who cultivate their own vineyards.
  • In the past these wine growers were selling their grapes to the big names that that you are familiar with such as Dom Perignon, Cristal, etc. These Big Champagne houses then would blend the grapes coming from all different vineyards into the final Champagne that you drink.
  • So the advantage of Grower Champagne is that, as the grape comes from the winegrowers own vineyards, which is a small area, you get to taste quality of that vineyard. So you can say you get precise terroir expression.
  • Another advantage is that, since the production of a single grower can only be a little, therefore the attention to detail in the vineyard and the winemaking is at a heightened level.
  • An important fact is that, for a winegrower to be recognized, it comes after years of hard work making a good champagne thereby creating good amount wine lovers following. So they earn their reputation.

Finally, every winegrower has their personality, and personal stories in Champagne, so you get to associate yourself to each Grower Champagne family on a personalized level when drinking one, instead of just associating with a brand.

Best of all, you can always email or call a grower Champagne, and like a humble family they are willing to talk to you and explain to you about Champagne!

I have listed 2 Excellent Grower Champagne below as examples.
