INDRA'S NOTE: Established in 1761, BORGOGNO is the oldest continuously operating estate in Barolo and a true guardian of Piedmontese winemaking history. We love this bottle because it remains an uncompromised champion of tradition—utilizing concrete vats and spontaneous fermentation with absolutely no modern shortcuts. The 2019 vintage is a masterclass in Nebbiolo, capturing the legendary elegance of the Cannubi cru.

FOOD PAIRING: This historic Nebbiolo pairs magnificently with truffle risotto, roasted meat-stuffed ravioli, or Castelmagno cheese (a historic, semi-hard Piedmontese cow’s milk cheese). The high acidity and firm tannic structure of this BORGOGNO Barolo effortlessly slice through rich, savory fats, creating a beautiful regional harmony.

This is single cru vineyard Barolo.

Cannubi is Barolo’s most historic vineyard, celebrated for its unique combination of sand, clay, and limestone soils that yield wines of elegance and longevity.

Borgogno's story begins in 1761, decades before Italy existed as a nation, making it Barolo's oldest continuously operating estate and the region's quiet guardian of tradition.

In 2008, the Farinetti family, the force behind Eataly, took ownership under Andrea Farinetti, and did the unfashionable thing: kept the tradition of Barolo and Borgogno intact, utilizing concrete vats, spontaneous fermentation, no modern shortcuts.

The 2019 vintage rewards that conservatism—a classic year, structured with high acidity, which are great characteristics for long aging.

From the legendary Cannubi cru, its ancient limestone and clay marl soils lend Nebbiolo unusual finesse; power channeled into elegance, a Barolo made as it would have been a century ago.
