Clos Napoleon Monopole Vineyard, Fixin, Burgundy, France
Grape: Pinot Noir 100%.
Ratings: 4.3 on VIVINO
Monopole means that the entire vineyard is owned by the Domaine, so therefore not shared with other Domaine.
Domaine Pierre Gelin, established in the early 20th century, is a respected estate particularly renowned for its expertise in producing wines from Clos Napoléon, a monopole vineyard.
The 2020 vintage is outstanding vintage for Pinot Noir in Fixin as well as for Burgundy red wines in general.
Are you wondering about the vineyard name "Napoleon"?
The Clos Napoleon, a parcel previously registered as “Aux Cheuzots”, owes its name to its owner at the time Claude Noisot, an Officer in the Imperial Guard.
Claude Noisot, who accompanied Napoleon to the Island of Elba and wished to pay homage to his emperor, commissioned the sculptor Rude from Dijon to create a statue to be erected in the Noisot Park.
The label of Clos Napoleon is a reproduction of this sculpture named “Le Réveil de Napoléon” (The Awakening of Napoleon).
