INDRA'S NOTE: While 2003 was a notoriously challenging, hot vintage across Hermitage, MICHEL CHAPOUTIER masterfully triumphed. This legendary bottling captured the perfect 100-point score, showing gorgeous, opulent fruit that is coasting magnificently in its prime drinking window right now.
FOOD PAIRING: Pair this powerful Syrah with rich, savory dishes like crispy roast pork, charred barbecued char siu, slow-braised beef short ribs, or mature Gouda.
- FOR THE CURIOUS
Origin: Le Pavillon Vineyard, Hermitage 'Ermitage', Rhone Valley, France
Grape: Shiraz 100%.
Ratings: 4.5 on VIVINO, 100 pts Robert Parker
Sourced from 90 to 100-year-old Syrah vines on the sheer, granitic slopes of the Les Bessards lieu-dit, Le Pavillon is a monumental expression of Hermitage.
The legendary 2003 vintage, defined by extreme heat, yielded an exceptionally rich, full-bodied, and velvety masterpiece with a decadent, glycerin-coated mouthfeel.
While naturally low in acidity with remarkably supple, ripe tannins, the wine retains its striking focus and freshness due to the intense structural minerality of the pure granite soils.
Now approaching its 23rd year, this highly limited, single-vineyard red has matured beautifully and is coasting magnificently through its prime drinking window.
It is built to reward collectors for decades to come.
